Apple Releases 802.11g Final Firmware

You can now download AirPort 3.1, the 802.11g final ratified version compatible AirPort Extreme software. Apple may have updates in the future, but they'll be tweaks compared to this.

One interesting new feature:

In WDS, now there are three types of base stations.

- Main base station

- Remote base station

- Relay base station

So, it seems that now it is possible to build a tree of WDS base stations.

The AirPort Extreme driver appears to no longer require any hacking to talk to 3rd party Broadcom based 802.11g CardBus or PCI cards.

How big can this tree be?

Firware 3.1 left my network inoperative

Had to revert to 5.0.4

Hope Apple have the tweak that fixes it soon.
