New AxBS Firmware

The AirPort Extreme Base Station has new firmware. This coincides with something else I can't discuss at the moment, but is part of an ongoing effort by the chipmakers for draft G equipment to continually update until reaching a standard. (Thanks, Ed!)

I downloaded the file mentioned and it is a bin file and needed classic to start. Any one else have this problem. I don't an extreme capable ibook but I didn't think that was needed.

I don't think it's a classic file: I think you need to make sure the right copy of Disk Copy launches. The file expands into a disk image (.img) which has the firmware on it.

From the Airport Admin Utility, select the airport you wish to upgrade, then click on the 'upload' button in the toolbar. You will be prompted to select the '.bin' file containing the firmware update.

Worked very well for me. The signal seems much more solid.

The uprade worked in OS-X per Apple's instructions, without any problems.

I uploaded the new firmware today. No problems noted. Was not having any of the previously noted problems of signal loss. since I have a emac and early version of the 17 inch imac, I'm running "B" not "G". Upload took at least 20 minutes. XBS must have re-set since connection dropped then came back up. Seems to be ok.

I just applied the patch. In X mount the bin file. Using Airport Utility, highlight the base station and upload. Improved signal strength and reduced dropped signals.

Do they have anything like this for Graphite yet?

There will almost certainly be no future graphite or snow firmware upgrades except to fix potential minor compatibility issues.

I am using istumbler and can verify the improvement in connectivity since installing this firmware.

Finally I can sell my nearly brand new still boxed Snow Base station that I kept, just in case....

Do you know of any way to update the firmware from OS 9? I have a PowerBook G3 Series (Wall Street), running 9.2.2, and I just got an Orinoco Gold PC card and an XBS, and I'm wondering if I have to live with the buggy firmware.
