Laying on of Hands
A commenter asked why we didn't provide first-hand reaction to the AirPort Extreme units in the article (see below) that covers 802.11g and Extreme. We should have pointed out: we haven't touched the things beyond looking at them and talking with Apple about them. Apple expects to be shipping Extreme units by the end of the month, and we hope to have review units in hand to write about before they ship.

I remember someone commenting that the AirPort Extreme base stations at Macworld were actually regular AirPorts with the Extreme shell. They didn't have any working 802.11g devices on the show floor.

Ah, I can rebut that in part: the backsides had the USB ports, so it might have been a shell, but it had to be a complete shell with a functioning old AirPort inside of it. Or maybe those AirPorts weren't handling the connectivity! But they were plugged in and had a light on in the front.
